Which cars look better as hatches, which don't?

Some hatches look great while their sedan counterparts look ungainly, while some sedan models simply don't translate well into the five door format. In my opinion smaller cars make much better hatches than sedans (Fiesta, Versa, Sonic). The ugliest hatches I can think of are on the larger end of the scale (5 GT, Malibu Maxx).

So what are the cars that totally transform with this body change?

The 5 GT and 3 GT aren't just a hatch grafted onto the sedan platform. They're actually wider and taller, and don't share any body panels in common. I think of them as completely separate from the 5 series and 3 series sedans.

I always thought the Vega was a decent-looking car. Too bad they were terrible.

The 3 GT, at least, is a hatch grafted onto the China-only 3-series long wheelbase sedan.

The only thing right about the Vega was the exterior styling, which was rather tasteful and well-proportioned.

They were very good looking cars, basically a baby Camaro. The styling was pretty much the only thing about the GM got right and it was screwed up in the 1974 facelift anyway.

Last gen WRX looks WAY better as a hatch than as a sedan
